So lol...since I know everybody is excited about my album "Return of
the Converse Kid" which comes out fall of 2009
(which I'm sure you've all read several times by now), I've decided that I'd do a series of blogs specifically addressing each and every song on my
up coming album.
And yes even joints that don't make the cut.
If I record the song for my album and it doesn't meet my album standards and doesn't get released on it, you'll still be able to read,
watch and hear why the song didn't make the cut.
So with that being said, our first order of business is my first single entitled "Find My Way".
This song has a lot of background to it.
The song is dedicated to, written about and inspired by a close friend and fellow artist (and she's an artist literally) Esra Odeh.
Also the song is a tribute to A Tribe Called Quest.
Most Hip-Hop heads will catch that right off the bat.
This song doesn't have a feature on it though we recorded a rough draft to get a feel for the song.
Also to help surprise Esra who's never heard the actual song along with the rest of you.
Reason why I wanted to surprise her was she's hella stubborn lol, and she knows I have a song for her so she constantly asks about it.
So we recorded a fake version of her song to kinda throw her off a lil' but and confuse her until we were ready to let her hear the actual song lol.
That rough version of the song is available on zShare and you can download it by clicking the following title of the song -- "Find My Way".
The finished version of the song is about the comparison between music and painting.
How they're both one in the same.
Both are forms of expression and emotion, they both require creative thinking, they both require patience and acquired tastes,
and they both are created simply with one idea which eventually grows into something much bigger.
Esra paints pictures with her paint brush and and canvas, while I do the same with my mind.
With her being the subject of my rhymes, it was very easy writing this song.
I didn't want to go over to many heads by being extremely metaphoric and at the same time refused to dumb down my thoughts for my audience
(shout out to Lupe).
So there are plenty of clever lines inside the song.
The challenging part which my manager thinks will be very difficult, is pushing this joint as a single.
It's not quite "pop" enough to receive radio play.
But Roky (Rovion "Rovi Rokmore" Reed, producer of 98.9% of my tracks) and I think Hip-Hop heads will appreciate it a lot and respect me for it.
Especially with me being at the young age I'm at I should receive some type of recognition from a more mature audience which is fine with me lol.
Also we have the video planned out and we feel that whatever you don't grasp by listening to the track, you'll be sure to pick up with the visuals of the video.
We hope to have Esra and possibly one of her paintings cameo in the video and we're talking to local director Matt Harsh of Harshpro about shooting the vid.
Keep an eye out for the song and the video soon, footage from the studio session will be uploaded soon!!
